Over 50 & Seriously Unfit....
Hi,
You probably don't know a couple of things about me:
1. I've been a serial or professional spectator all my life;
2. I tried to join a gym in Cork City about 30 years ago, and as soon as I listed my physical difficulties, I was politely shown the door...
2. I joined a Crossfit Club in April 2016.
If you'd like to know more about the change in me, please read this link: www.guerillafitnessclonakilty.com/2016/12/15/avril-allshire-howe-from-couch-to-crossfit/
I haven't written in the past couple of weeks due to a lack of time to sit and write and a general feeling of being on a treadwheel. You know the mouse who runs but can't see the endline. Well, that even extended to my attendance at Guerilla Crossfit Club, so I've got a lot to catch up on.....
As a prelude, on Christmas Eve, I enjoyed a measure of the new West Cork Blended Irish Whiskey - Bourbon Cask. Really, really smooth, this whiskey slips down easily but really worth savouring on the tongue. I'm no alcohol critic, so this is as close as you'll get to knowing this is one of my top 10 drinks over the Christmas period. Mind you, I also enjoy sipping Ballyhoura Cider Vinegar and water during the day in preference to any of the fizzies. Does that make me odd? You tell me....
Christmas Day has to have been one of the most relaxed days I've enjoyed in a very long time. As a family, we attend 8am Holy Communion in St. Fachtna's Cathedral, Rosscarbery, but I'm also a church warden in the Cathedral, so I returned to assist in preparing for the 11.30am service. By the time, I came home, the lads had the outside jobs done; checked the processing unit in particular cold rooms and freezer so everyone could chill for the next few hours & hubby was supervising the dinner. All that I needed to make was the gravy.
St. Stephen's Day was much the same but I knew I needed to get back to some normal routine so couldn't resist when Guerilla was open for an hour or so. It was great & another milestone for me: Brendan gave me an hour to do the following:
8kg over the shoulder throw x 15 & 10 burpees for the chorus line. The verse was 35kg Deadlift; Russian Swings & 2 x 5kg Dumbell Thrusters starting with 10 of each. Each verse reduced by 1 but the chorus was the cardio killer. I did it in about 55 minutes. Thrilled with my progress.
I did spend a few hours in the office and the same on Tuesday. Back into normal production on Wednesday & yesterday delivering. If you're an artisan producer, there is a very short respite from production.
You know, I thought that the advent of computers would reduce the paperwork volume. I've spent more than 30 years now in offices and the volume has increased but has been encouraged by the increasing raft of legislation that dogs our every step. Think about your personal circumstances - how much paperwork have you to retain at all times?
If you have any comments, please pass them on to me.
Until next time
Avril
