Staying Away
I know it's ages since I was on, but have been sort of busy. As I previously said, I had the privilege of being one of 10 people who were honoured to enjoy the new menu in Bellini's in the AA Hotel of the Year, Maryborough House, last Wednesday evening. A wonderful evening and it was great to meet a few more bloggers too. Home on Thursday, and in the middle of writing a post for this blog, there was a bit of a thunder storm. For the second time in recent months, our broadband coverage was knocked out in the processing unit. I didn't panic as on the last occasion when I rang Rapid Broadband, they very sensibly advised that they wouldn't send anyone to do repairs until the weather improved. By Friday, I knew it needed to be fixed so rang and they arrived yesterday morning. Meanwhile I was in Tullamore for the NPCpp (National Parents Council Post Primary) National Conference in Tullamore Court Hotel. The speakers were excellent and I was able to attend two of the three workshops on offer - Law and Cracking the Code. I'm not being sarcastic when I say these speakers maintained my total focus. Now I'm home and have spent the past three hours playing catchup. In case you're wondering what took me to this conference - plain and simple, I want to learn and this conference is always very good. The other thing is that it's free! What disappointed me? Accepting that people find it difficult to travel distances, there must be very few secondary school parents in the immediate area. Communication was an underlying theme throughout the day and the obvious lack of awareness by parents in the Tullamore area was a huge pity. Wherever the conference happens in 2015, I think there needs to be engagement with the schools in the relevant area from the time agreement is reached with the hotel. People have so many calls on their time nowadays that many of us have to plan far ahead.
Which reminds me, I'm beginning to get busy over the next few weeks, so on Saturday, there will be a West Cork Coeliac Afternoon Tea in the Celtic Ross Hotel at 3pm. Then on Sunday, there will be a Christmas Food Fair with many exhibitors willing to help you choose what to buy from their stalls (I will not be there as we take Sunday off).
Until tomorrow
