I am not a mechanical person.

I'm clueless when it comes to looking under the hood of any mechanical vehicle. As long as it drives, I'm good to go. Radio on in the background, an open road and I can drive, enjoy the countryside where possible and just think. It's therapy for me.
Unfortunately yesterday was one of those days when a little knowledge and indeed awareness would have been useful. Halfway through my deliveries, I found I had no brakes! I didn't hit anyone, do any further damage to the van or to myself.
Parking at the garage - Brian Powell Motors - & being given the bad news that I could go no further, I was thankful for two things - cold, cold weather helped keep our products cold in the van, and when a replacement refrigerated van arrived from home, my van was still reading -1°C; the second thing was our customers' sympathy and help in the circumstances, so my thanks to S.V. Midleton; Ballymaloe; Castlemartyr and Market Lane Restaurant.
At this, my final port of call for the evening, I was asked if I'd had anything to eat; confessing that a packet of rice cakes had been 'it' for most of the day, I said I'd be delighted with a few chips. Thank you, Tracey & team, for not taking me literally as the beautiful Roast Chicken plate was a far, far better option especially as the evening progressed.
I was speaking with the Coeliac Support Group in Wilton at 8pm, where I received a very warm welcome as always, and learnt far more than I imparted. I made a Sausage Apple Pie & the recipe will follow on www.rosscarberyrecipes.blogspot.ie.
When the meeting was over, I found that one of the members couldn't find her keys despite turning everything upside down and getting very frustrated - she found out this morning that the keys had taken a trip without her to Kilworth! Anyway at the end of it all I was finally home and into my bed at just after midnight - that dinner kept me going all night.
I don't usually go an entire day without food, but the adrenalin kept me going to a point; the dinner fuelled me for the rest of the evening.
Until next time
A very tired 'Avril'
